Cake Smash Sessions - FAQ

So, your baby's first birthday is coming up and all you've been hearing is "are you doing a cake smash?" You shyly nod your head yes, but think to yourself, "what the heck is a cake smash???" Have no fear, I am here.

Q: So, what is a cake smash?

A: A cake smash is an adorable way to celebrate any birthday or milestone, though typically, these are done for first birthdays. You get the joy of watching your sweet baby dive in to his or hers first taste of cake! Who doesn't wish they could eat their cake by the fistfull with no judgement?

Q: What all is included in a cake smash session?

A: With me, you'll get a total package. I include the props, backdrop, cake, and laughs. When you fill out the questionnaire on my booking site, you'll see a place where I ask about the theme you desire. This will help point me in the right direction for creating a personalized experience just for you and your baby!

Q: What is NOT included in a cake smash session?

A: The outfit(s) you want your child to wear is left up to you. I do have diaper covers and suspender/bow tie sets that I'll happily let you borrow, but I've found that the outfit is a bit more of a challenge to provide for me. That said, I do have an add-on to purchase a customized onesie or T-shirt!

Q: What if my child has allergies or food sensitivities?

A: No problem! In the questionnaire, there is a place where I ask about allergies and food sensitivities. Please be sure to list all of them here and I will pass along to my baker! She should be able to accommodate most requests.

Q: Where do you get your cakes from?

A: My very best friend makes every cake from scratch. She is a genius when it comes to custom designs and is so incredibly talented.

Q: Do I have do get my cake from you?

A: Of course not, but it is included with my price. If you were to provide your own cake, the investment in your session with me will not change.

Q: Where do your sessions take place?

A: Anywhere! The sky is the limit! I've done sessions at your home, at a studio (for an additional fee), at a park, even a golf course (with permission of course!). We can go wherever the wind blows us (as long as it's legal, haha!).

Q: What do I receive after the session?

A: As with all of my sessions, you will get a link to your own private online gallery with as many images as I deem worthy. I don't limit the number of images you receive, and many times you'll get 50-75 images from a session! Turnaround time can take up to two weeks.

Q: What is the Splish-Splash add-on?

A: A fun way to clean the baby off before you go home! Kidding...mostly. It's an extra half an hour added onto the traditional cake smash where your sweet babe will enjoy a bath and bubbles after getting cake everywhere! Most babies love splashing around in the water and being able to make an absolute mess!

Q: Can I bring my own props?

A: Absolutely! I LOVE when you bring in items that are special to you or your family and incorporate it into the theme of the cake smash.

Q: Do I have to have a cake?

A: No, but you also don't want a cake smash session. Save some money and book a children's session instead! If you want a giant cookie or donuts instead of a cake, that's fine too and I can handle getting those instead of the cake!

Q: What if my child doesn't like the cake?

A: No problem! I suggest bringing Puffs or some other treat they do enjoy. A little trick I have is to put the Puffs in the cake for them grab, then when they eat it, it LOOKS like they're eating the cake! Works like a charm!

Q: Can my other kids (or me and my partner) get in some photos too?

A: If it's to help get the main subject to cooperate, by all means! However, these are not intended to be a family session. Towards the end, if there is time, I will happily let your older children taste the cake and help their little sibling eat it and snap some photos along the way. But please don't come into this session expecting family photos.
